The purpose of this study is to examine the presence of gender-biased language in English-Korean subtitles of popular movies released in Korean cinemas. This study aims to identify the instances that have been introduced or accentuated by translators. A corpus data analysis was carried out on 20 English-Korean subtitles of the highest-grossing films of all time in South Korea. The analysis using AntConc showed 24 instances of gender-biased language across 10 movies, including 9 instances of unnecessary gender-specific terms, 5 instances of reinforced gender stereotypes, and 10 examples of gender-specific pejorative terms. The findings reveal that translated subtitles include gender-biased terms not found in the source text, and that most of them are derogatory language against woman.
